Fort Lauderdale, USA – Luis Suarez scored two penalty goals to give Inter Miami a 2-1 win over Tigres UANL and put the team in the Leagues Cup semi-finals. Lionel Messi did not play in this match due to a muscle injury.
The first goal was scored by Suarez in the 20th minute, when the Tigres defender touched the ball with his hand and the team got a penalty.
Tigres equalized the score in the 67th minute with a goal from Angel Correa.
In the last moments of the match (87th minute), once again after a VAR check, the handball of the Tigres defender was confirmed. Suarez easily converted the second penalty into a goal.
Some controversy and tension was also seen during the match, so much so that Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano was sent off the field.
The win not only advances Inter Miami to the semifinals, but also secures them a spot in next season’s CONCACAF Champions Cup.
