Teams got different results in the first leg matches of the UEFA Champions League Qualifying Playoffs held on 21 August 2025 across Europe.
Fenerbahce (Jose Mourinho’s team) got a 0-0 draw against Benfica at their home. The special thing was that Benfica was playing with 10 players from the 71st minute, but still Fenerbahce could not take advantage. Now the second leg to be held next week will be difficult for them.
Scotland’s Celtic team also could not register a win at home and played a 0-0 draw with Kazakhstan’s Kairat Almaty. Now the result in the second leg in Almaty will be final.
Norway’s Bodo / Glimt showed a great game and defeated Sturm Graz 5-0. With this win, they have come very close to making it to the Champions League for the first time.
Basel and Copenhagen drew 1-1. Basel captain Xherdan Shaqiri scored from an early penalty.
Cypriot team Pafos surprised Red Star Belgrade by defeating them 2-1 and took a slight lead before the second leg.
Now the second leg matches of these playoffs will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. Their winners will join the Champions League lineup of 36 teams.
The draw ceremony for the group stage will be held in Monaco on 28 August.
