The Shipping Boys began their defense of the FA Cup with a win over Mighty Barrolle to reach the second round of the competition.
It was a narrow win for Tapha Manneh boys that managed a 1-0 win over Mighty Barrolle. Mark Paye’s goal in the first half was enough to send LISCR FC through to the second.
In a relative competitive match, LISCR FC enjoyed much of the possession but squandered many opportunities that could have laid the game too rest before the 90th minute. Mark Paye make his return to the match day squad with a fine form which made him the threat to Mighty Barrolle’s defense. Paye nearly got his second of the day in the 63rd minute but saw his efforts denied by the woodwork.
The 1-0 score-line didn’t scare Mighty Barrolle enough as they kept pushing for an equalizer. LISCR nearly conceded in the 83rd minute when the referee pointed to the spot for penalty after a crossed ball appeared to have touched the hand of Armah Vaikainah.
However, 17-year old Liberian international goalkeeper, Ashley Williams was on time to save the Shipping Boys. Ashley denied Barrolle from the spot to keep the score 1-0 in favor of LISCR FC. There were no goals for neither of the teams until the end of the match as LISCR earned a hard-fought 1-0 win to reach the second round of the FA Cup.
The second-round opponent will be known on Sunday, September 16 when the draw will be made.
