LISCR FC’s 17-year-old goalkeeper took one big step in his footballing career when he played his first game for the senior national team of Liberia on Tuesday, September 11.
The young shot-stopper was introduced at the start of the second half in Liberia’s 2-1 defeat to Nigeria in an international friendly at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex. Williams replaced his LISCR FC teammate, Tommy Songo who started in goal.
He went on to keep clean sheet as Liberia bowed to a 2-1 defeat at home. Henry Onyekuru and Simeon Nwankwo got the two goals for the Super Eagles in the first half before Kpah Sherman scored lately in the second half for Liberia from the penalty spot.
At 17 years 254 days old, he became the second youngest player to play for the senior national team of Liberia behind Murphy Oscar Dorley who played for Liberia when he was 17-years 46 days old against Tunisia on September 5, 2015.
Williams came to the light during the 2018 WAFU U20 nations cup that was hosted in Liberia. His brilliant form in goal helped Liberia finished as runners-up after a 2-1 defeat to Gambia in the final.
