The technical team of the Liberia national U-20 team has released a list of 18 players for the upcoming WAFU U-20 nations cup that will be hosted in Liberia. The final list of 18 players was released by the Liberia Football Association through its official Facebook page on Sunday, April 22.
Among the list of players called up for the tournament are five of LISCR FC’s players that will be representing the Shipping Boys on the international scene. The five players include powerful center defender, Asiamuh Dann who can also play at the right-full-back position, magic hands, Ashley Williams, midfield engineer, Allen Njie, midfield wizard, Sheku Sheriff and master dribbler, Edward Ledlum.
Early in April, the technical team of the national U-20 named a provisional list of 25-palyers that were being observed for the tournament. The 25-man provisional squad included six LISCR FC players which was cut down to five in the final 18-players list after youthful midfield engine, Benjamin Doe didn’t make the final list. The youthful midfielder has return home and will resume training with LISCR FC under head coach Tapha Manneh.
Despite not being selected into the final team, Doe believed his inclusion in the 25-players provisional squad is a strong motivation for him. He told LISCR FC media, he’s not disappointed as he sees it as a challenge to keep improving as a player.
Meanwhile, head coach Tapha Manneh has congratulated his boys for making the team as encourage them to put in their best performances to help the country and themselves. The Gambian boss said it’s a welcoming news for the club to have five players in the team and he hopes they will represent the club fully by giving their best performances on the pitch.
Liberia will play their first match on Tuesday, April 24 when they take on Ivory Coast at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex at 3:30 PM.
